What the columns are for

The number column is the order. When someone asks how many people are ahead of them, count the names below the last tick. "Time in" lets you see how long the first person has been waiting before they ask.

"Asked for" matters when customers wait for one person. If three names ask for the same barber or tech, you can tell the next person that before they sit down, rather than after twenty minutes.

When the clipboard stops working

Paper works while the lobby is small. It stops when people look at a full room and leave without signing, when customers wait for one person, or when someone asks "how long?" and nobody knows. A sheet records arrivals. It can't show a wait, and it can't tell anyone it's their turn.

NextUp is the same list on a phone. Customers scan a code at the door, see their place and wait, and get a text when they're up. A TV in the lobby shows who's next. It's $29 a month per location with a 14-day free trial. More in Replace your paper sign-in sheet and Google Forms vs a real waitlist.

Common questions

Why is there no phone number column?

A sign-in sheet sits on the counter where every customer can read it. A column of names and phone numbers is a list anyone can photograph. If you want to text people when it is their turn, take the number somewhere private, such as a phone check-in page that only the shop can see.

Is this sign-in sheet really free?

Yes. Print as many as you like, and you do not need an account or an email address. The sheet has a small line at the bottom with the address it came from.

What size does it print?

US Letter, portrait, one page, with 22 lines (18 if you add a QR code). If you print on A4, choose "Fit to page" in the print dialog.
