Give money back the right way, once

Refund any amount up to what was paid, with a reason. A card payment goes back to the card, cash is recorded as handed back, and every refund is in your activity log.

  • Any amount, with a reason
  • Card goes back to the card
  • Never more than was paid
  • In the activity log

Part of a bill, or all of it

Open a paid bill from the Checkout page, choose Refund, enter an amount and say why.

  • Any amount.Up to what is left on the bill, so a partial refund can be followed by another.
  • A reason every time.It is kept with the refund, in the activity log.
  • History in sight. The dialog shows the client’s earlier refunds, newest five, and turns amber at two or more in 90 days.
Example: a partial refund.

Back where it came from

How the money returns depends on how it was paid, and the books follow.

  • Card.Returned to the card through Stripe, tip included. The pay each person is owed is reduced by their share.
  • Cash and other ways.Recorded as money handed back. A cash tip stays with the team member.
  • Counted in close-out.Cash refunds come out of the cash drawer, so the night still adds up.
Example: refunds in the day’s totals.

Safe even when two people refund at once

A refund is checked against what was paid at the moment it is made.

  • Never more than was paid. Two people refunding the same bill together cannot go past the total.
  • Stripe says no? It comes off.A refund Stripe refuses is taken back off the bill.
  • Not confirmed yet? Check again. One Stripe has not confirmed is settled with Check again, and it is never refunded twice.
  • Products back on the shelf.A full refund can put the bill’s products back in stock.
Example: a refund Stripe has not confirmed.

  • Owner’s control

Owners can refund. Managers can only if the owner turns their Refunds switch on.

  • Split bills

A bill paid in shares is refunded one payment at a time.

  • On the receipt

A receipt shows the refunds since, so the customer’s copy matches yours.
