A prepaid balance clients spend like cash
Clients keep a balance with your business and spend it at checkout. Add it at the counter, sell it on their bill, or let them top up from their phone.
- Spent at checkout
- Top up by card on their phone
- Bonus tiers if you want them
- Works at every location
Add credit in a few taps
Open a client’s profile and use the Store credit card. Your business issues the credit and owns the balances, not NextUp Walk-in.
- Add credit.Money the client pays you now, in cash or another way. You choose the smallest and largest top-up.
- Give goodwill.Promotional credit with a reason, by the owner or a manager you allow, up to a daily limit per person.
- Move a gift card.Turn a gift card’s balance, all or part, into store credit. It is one way.
- Bonus tiers.Optional and off by default, such as “add $100, get $10 free”.
Promotional credit is labelled so clients can tell the two parts apart.
Spend it on the bill
On the Checkout page, choose Store credit on the visit’s bill. Use any amount up to what is left to pay and what they have.
- Pay the rest any way.Cash, card or a pay link covers whatever the credit does not.
- Easy to undo.Take off puts it back on their credit. Cancelling the bill gives it back too.
- Never the tip.Store credit does not pay a tip. Take the tip in cash or on a card.
- On the receipt. It shows the credit used and what is left.
Receipt: store credit used $40.00 · $55.00 left on their credit.
Let clients top up on their phone
Turn on “Customers can add credit online” and clients add credit by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on Stripe’s secure page. It is off until you turn it on.
- From the counter.Press Top up by card on a profile to show a QR code and a link to copy.
- In the NextUp app.Your business’s home shows their balance and Add credit.
- Sell it on the bill.Add store credit at checkout, then pay for everything together.
- Your name on it.Their page shows your name and look, and says your business holds the credit.

Who it’s for
Barbershop
A regular pays $100 up front and gets $10 free. Each cut comes off the balance at the chair.
Salon
A refund can go back as store credit when the client agrees, so the money stays for her next color.
Tattoo studio
Clients pre-load credit for a long project and spend it session by session.
The small things
Promotional credit can expire
Set a default life in days. Paid credit never expires.
Cash out
The owner can hand paid credit back, card top-ups first.
A Store credit report
What was loaded, used, given back, cashed out and expired.
Frozen if disputed
If a client disputes a card top-up with their bank, their credit is frozen until it is settled.
Every location
A balance works at every location of the business.
Questions
Who holds the money?
Your business. You issue the credit and own the balances. A card top-up reaches your own Stripe account like any card payment, less Stripe’s fee and NextUp Walk-in’s card fee.
Does credit expire?
Paid credit never does. Promotional credit, such as goodwill and bonuses, can end on a date you set.
Which plans have it?
Adding store credit is part of Pro, and the free trial includes it. Credit clients already hold is always honoured on any plan.
