Card readers

Every NextUp Walk-in business takes cards from day one with no hardware. When you want the full front-desk experience, add a Stripe card reader. The hardware compatibility list says what works, what is coming and what is not supported.

Stripe readers that work with NextUp Walk-in

Every NextUp Walk-in business takes cards from day one, with no hardware at all. When you want the full front-desk experience, add a Stripe card reader: the customer picks a tip, taps their card, and the bill closes itself in NextUp Walk-in, with the money in your own Stripe account. These are the readers Stripe sells in the US that work with NextUp Walk-in.

Included with every plan: no reader needed

Send a pay link or show a QR code, and the customer pays on their own phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, tip included. Regulars can save a card and pay the next bill in one tap. A reader is an upgrade, never a requirement.

A smart reader with a 5.5-inch touchscreen. It sits at the front desk, or goes to the customer, and runs the payment by itself.

    • The customer chooses their tip on the reader, then taps, inserts or swipes
    • Contactless cards and phone wallets, chip and magstripe
    • Charged from the bill in NextUp Walk-in: no amounts typed in twice
    • Added in a minute: type the code it shows into Checkout → Card readers

    Stripe Reader T600

A larger reader with an 8-inch landscape screen that stays put on the counter, plugged in.

    • A big, easy-to-read tip screen facing the customer
    • Tap, chip or swipe, charged from the bill in NextUp Walk-in

Wi-Fi, or Ethernet with Stripe’s hub

The S700 is the reader NextUp Walk-in has tested most. The S710 and T600 pair the same way, with the pairing code they show, on the Card readers page (Checkout → Card readers).

Already have a BBPOS WisePOS E? It keeps working with NextUp Walk-in: add it in Checkout → Card readers like the readers above. Stripe stopped selling new ones on September 1, 2026, and the S700 takes its place.

Buying a reader

Readers come straight from Stripe, at Stripe's price: order one on Stripe's site, or in your Stripe Dashboard under Terminal → Hardware orders. NextUp Walk-in makes nothing on the hardware, and these aren't affiliate links.

  1. Order it from Stripe

One of the readers on this page, shipped to your business.

  2. Add it in NextUp Walk-in

A counter reader: open Checkout → Card readers and type the pairing code it shows. The M2: pair it from the NextUp app on the team member's phone.

  3. Charge from the bill

The amount comes from the visit's bill, with no amounts typed in twice.

Not every reader on Stripe's list works with NextUp Walk-in. Stripe also lists Verifone readers and self-service kiosks, which NextUp Walk-in doesn't support. NextUp Walk-in works with the Stripe readers on this page only, not other card readers or point-of-sale systems.

Prices are Stripe's US list prices, checked on stripe.com in October 2026; Stripe sets and may change them, and docks, hubs and cases cost extra. The Amazon disclosure above covers only the Amazon picks. Card payments, with or without a reader, go to your own Stripe account: Stripe's processing fee plus NextUp Walk-in's card fee of 0.5%, at most $1 a payment, never on tips.
