Program

NextUp Walk-in Alerts. When you join a business's walk-in line through NextUp (a barbershop, salon, auto service or repair shop, for example) and choose to give your mobile number, we text you about your place in that line.

How you opt in

On the business's NextUp join page (reached from a QR code at the business, or a link on its website or social media), you enter your name and, optionally, your mobile number, then check a box that reads:

"Text me about my place in line at [Business name] (a confirmation, updates as the line moves, and when it's my turn), and call me if I don't respond when it's my turn. Message frequency varies (usually 2–5 texts per visit). Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help."

The box is unchecked by default, and joining without a phone number is always allowed. You can't join with a phone number unless you check it.

At some businesses, once you check that box, a second, optional box appears: "Also text me as I move up (up to N texts)". It's also unchecked by default. Check it only if you want the moving-up updates described below. If you join by phone, staff read you the same wording and only text you if you agree.

What we send and how often

  • A confirmation when you join and an alert when it's your turn — at most twice per visit: once when staff call you, and once more if staff call you again. If the business has turned on calls, it may also phone you once if you haven't responded when they call you again.
  • If you're called and haven't arrived, the business may send one check-in message asking whether you're still coming. Reply 1 (about 2 minutes away), 2 (5 minutes), 3 (10 minutes) or 4 (can't make it, which removes you from the line), or tap the link.
  • Only if you checked "Also text me as I move up": short updates as you near the front, such as "You're 3rd in line" and "You're next". Up to the number shown next to the box (5 at most), and none between 9 pm and 8 am.
  • If you text the number during your visit, the business may reply (its reply starts with the business name).
  • Message frequency varies, usually 2–5 messages per visit.
  • Example: "Main Street Studio: You're #3 in line. We'll text when it's your turn: https://app.nextupwalkin.com/w/Ab3dE6gH9k Reply STOP to opt out."
  • Example: "Main Street Studio: You're 3rd in line. We'll text when you're up."
  • Example: "Main Street Studio: You're up! Reply Y if on your way or N to cancel."
  • Example: "Main Street Studio: Still coming? Reply 1=2 min away, 2=5 min, 3=10 min, 4=can't make it."
  • No marketing or promotional messages, ever.

Cost

NextUp doesn't charge for texts. Message and data rates may apply from your carrier.

Opting out and help

  • Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. You'll get one confirmation and nothing more.
