How a Customer Pays
- Open the paymentThe customer opens your pay link or QR code, or pays a booking deposit or an online gift card.
- Choose AfterpayOn Stripe’s secure page, they pick Afterpay beside the card options.
- Confirm with AfterpayThey sign in and confirm with Afterpay, which sets their repayment terms.
- You are paidThe bill shows as paid and Stripe settles the payment to your Stripe account, less Stripe’s fee.
What You Do
- An owner turns on “Pay over time (Klarna, Affirm, Afterpay, Zip, Sunbit)” in the Payment methods table on the dashboard’s Payments page. It is off until they do, and one switch covers all five.
- Stripe has to allow the method for your business too. The table shows Stripe’s answer (Approved, In review or Not approved yet); until Stripe approves it, your pay pages offer only the methods Stripe accepts.
- Afterpay needs no hardware and no change to how you ring up a bill.
- If Afterpay isn’t approved yet, the table says so and your pay pages offer the methods that are.
Good to Know
- Afterpay appears only when the payment is between $1 and $2,000, a lower top amount than Klarna or Affirm.
- A booking deposit paid with Afterpay keeps no card on file for a no-show fee.
- NextUp Walk-in’s card fee is worked out on these payments the same way as on card payments. Stripe’s own fee for them is higher than for cards and is on Stripe’s pricing page.
- Afterpay decides whether each customer can use it, and sets the repayment terms.
