Hardware Compatibility
What works with NextUp Walk-in today, what is coming, and what we do not support. If a device is not on this page, we have not tested it, so please ask before you buy. The equipment page has the devices we would choose.
Card Readers
Stripe Terminal readers sold in the US. Every business takes cards without a reader; a reader adds the tip screen and tap-to-pay at the counter.
| Device | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe Reader S700 | Works | Wi-Fi, or Ethernet with Stripe’s hub or dock. A smart reader with a 5.5-inch touchscreen. It sits at the front desk, or goes to the customer, and runs the payment by itself. |
| Stripe Reader S710 | Works | Wi-Fi, cellular, or Ethernet with Stripe’s hub or dock. The S700 with its own 4G/LTE connection, for a front desk where the Wi-Fi isn’t dependable. |
| Stripe Reader T600 | Works | Wi-Fi, or Ethernet with Stripe’s hub. A larger reader with an 8-inch landscape screen that stays put on the counter, plugged in. |
| Stripe Reader M2 | Coming Soon | Bluetooth, to an iPhone or Android phone. A pocket-size reader a team member pairs to their phone in the NextUp app. |
| Tap to Pay on Android | Works | The phone itself: Android 8 or later, on phones Stripe supports. A feature of the NextUp app: the team member’s Android phone is the reader. The customer taps their contactless card or phone on it. |
| Stripe WisePOS E | Works | Stripe stopped selling it on September 1, 2026. If you already own one, it still works. |
| Verifone P630, V660p, M425 and UX700 | Not Supported | Not tested with NextUp Walk-in. Stripe sells them only through its sales team. |
Receipt Printers
Receipts print through your device’s own print dialog, so any printer the device can already print to works. There is no printer driver in the NextUp app.
| Device | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Thermal receipt printers, 80 mm paper | Works | Installed on the computer, on your Wi-Fi network or paired in the device’s settings. |
| Thermal receipt printers, 58 mm paper | Works | Choose the paper width for each location at Locations, Receipts. |
| Printers that only print through their maker’s own app | Not Supported | NextUp Walk-in does not talk to a printer directly, so it needs the device’s print dialog. |
TV Displays
The waiting-room TV shows the line. Streaming devices run our app; some TVs need a stick.
| Device | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming devices | Works | Work with the NextUp app. |
| Chromecast | Not Supported | It only mirrors a phone, and the picture freezes when that phone sleeps. |
| Newer Fire TV Sticks | Coming Soon | Vega OS has no web browser. A NextUp app for them is coming soon; until then, pick a Fire TV Stick 4K Max. |
| LG and Samsung TVs | Coming Soon | A NextUp app is coming soon; until then, plug a streaming stick into the TV. |
Tablets, Phones and Computers
The door tablet, the staff screen and the dashboard.
| Device | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Any current iPad, Android tablet, phone or computer with a web browser | Works | NextUp Walk-in runs in the browser. Add it to the home screen for a full-screen door tablet. |
| NextUp app for iPhone and iPad | Coming Soon | From the App Store. |
| NextUp app for Android phones and tablets | Works | From Google Play. |
