Switch from Square Appointments to NextUp Walk-in
Moving a client list from Square Appointments. Square’s customer directory exports a CSV.
SWITCH: Your first month is free with the code SWITCH when you subscribe on monthly billing, and we will help you import your client list. The 14-day free trial comes first and has every Pro feature.
1. Export your clients from Square Appointments
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Customers, then Customer directory, then Directory.
- Click Import / Export, then Export customers.
- Choose All Customers or specific groups, then click Export. When the CSV file is ready, click Download.
Square Support Center: export customers (in the card-on-file export article)Checked on . Their pages change, so follow the labels on your screen.
2. Import them into NextUp Walk-in
- In your NextUp Walk-in dashboard, open Clients, then Import clients. Only the owner can import.
- Drop the file in as it is (Excel, CSV or vCard). You do not need to rename or reorder columns: NextUp Walk-in matches them, and you can change any match.
- Check the preview. Every row shows whether it is new, an update, unchanged or an error, and nothing is saved until you confirm.
- Confirm. The import is kept under Past imports, with a report you can download.
Clients you bring in with Import clients are records for your team. NextUp Walk-in doesn’t text them or add them to email campaigns or rebooking emails; a client gets those after agreeing at check-in. Emailing a past client list is a separate, one-time step on the Pro plan (Email Marketing), where each client is first welcomed with an unsubscribe link.
3. Bring your services
- We did not find a services export on Square’s help pages. Copy your service names, lengths and prices from your Square item library into the NextUp Walk-in template below.
- Open Catalog, then Import a spreadsheet, and download the blank template (the columns and three example rows).
- Copy your services into it: name, length and price. An import can have up to 1,000 rows and 1 MB.
- Upload it and check the preview of every row. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
What is different
- NextUp Walk-in is built around the walk-in line: customers join from a QR code or your link, see a live wait, and a TV shows who is up next.
- Plans are priced per location: $29 a month for the first and $19 for each extra on Walk-in, $59 and $39 on Pro, which adds appointments and online booking.
- Card payments run through your own Stripe account. NextUp Walk-in does not connect to another point-of-sale system, so plan the move of your register as well as your client list.
