Walk-in vet visits without the waiting-room standoff: owners wait in the car

A reactive dog, a cat carrier and a puppy in one small room is nobody’s idea of a calm clinic. A walk-in or same-day line at a vet works better when owners can wait outside with their pet, the team knows what is coming, and the new-patient paperwork is done before the exam room. Here is how that works, beside the practice software you already use.

Wait in the car, with the pet

Owners join from the door code, a link or your Google profile, and see their place live on their phone. When the team rooms the next pet with one tap, the owner’s phone says to head to the exam room with their pet. Nervous pets stay out of the lobby, and the front desk stops answering “how long?”.

Ask for the reason, not the price

The vet starter list has sick pet, injury or urgent concern, vaccines, wellness exam, nail trim, microchip, medication or food pickup. Owners pick the closest one, with no prices shown, and your team sees it beside each pet. Each reason counts for its own time in the wait, so a medication pickup is a five-minute item and an injury is not. Up to five questions (species, age, symptoms) can be read before the room.

NextUp Walk-in is a waiting list, not triage. Your clinical staff decide who is seen first, and the staff screen is where they move someone up or call a pet back.

The pet’s name on the screen

The staff screen and the waiting-room TV show the pet’s name with the owner beside it, so “Luna · Mark T.” is called, not a stranger’s name. Walk-ups and phone-ins go into the same line from the front desk.

New-patient form and vaccine records

The vet starter has a new-patient (pet) form: species and breed, birthday, medications and allergies, previous clinic. The owner signs it on their phone before joining, once or once a year as you choose. Health Records keep each pet’s vaccinations with due dates and a photo of the certificate, marked current, expiring soon or expired. See digital waivers and vaccination records for how records work.

Booked visits beside the walk-ins

On the Pro plan, wellness exams and vaccines can be booked online beside the walk-in line. Deposits and a card on file come with card payments, which are coming soon. Wellness plans can be sold as memberships and prepaid packs as packages; see memberships and packages.

It sits beside your practice software

NextUp Walk-in runs the check-in, the waiting room and checkout. It does not replace your practice-management software or medical records. Insights show visits per day, quoted against real waits, people who left the line and busiest hours by weekday. The veterinary clinics page has the full list.
