Lookbook for tattoo studios: your flash on the line
Lookbook is a NextUp Walk-in feature that puts pictures on the services you already list. A customer joining your line can pick a flash design from photos, and your artist sees what they asked for on the staff screen. On a tattoo studio’s account it is named “Flash & Portfolio” unless you rename it. Here is what it does today, and what comes next.
What Lookbook is
Most shops share flash as Instagram posts and Stories, close the sale in DMs, and keep a printed sheet on the wall or a PDF in a shared folder. Each of those is a picture. It cannot say which designs are gone or how long a session takes.
Lookbook is a visual layer over your NextUp Walk-in service catalog, not a second list to keep up. Each flash design is a service you already have, with its session time and price, and now with photos, a section such as “Flash: Friday the 13th”, and a design number. Each size can be its own item (#7 Small, #7 Large).
It is on every plan. Walk-in includes 300 photos per location and Pro 1,500, and the free trial has the Pro limits. A photo counts once, however many places it shows.
Adding your flash
In the dashboard, open Catalog, then Flash & Portfolio. The page lists your services. Turn on the switch beside a design to show it, then open it to add up to 12 photos (PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 2 MB each, several at once), put them in order with the first as the cover, and add a caption to each.
Give the design a section, a design number and, when it is gone, mark it sold out with one switch. Every cover photo needs a short description before it can show, with an optional Spanish version for customers who use the site in Spanish. A design shows to customers only once it has a photo.
Photos of real tattoos on real clients need the client’s okay before you post them. NextUp Walk-in’s Terms do not allow sexually explicit uploads in Lookbook.
Picking a design when they join
Once your Lookbook has designs with photos, the join form shows an optional “Pick a look” grid. The customer taps the design they want and joins the line. Your front desk sees the same grid when they use Add to line on the staff screen. Designs marked sold out are not offered, so nobody picks #12 after it is gone.
On the staff screen the person’s ticket reads “Wants: #7 Small” with a small photo; tap it to see the photo bigger. A Style button on the ticket changes the pick or clears it. The pick is a note for your artist. It does not change the service or the wait estimate, and it is never shown on the TV or to other customers.
On the lobby TV
Turn on Rotating content under Branding, TV Display, and between calls the TV cycles your current wait and up to 8 of your designs, one at a time, each with its photo, name and price. Designs marked sold out are left out. Our guide to what to put on a waiting room TV covers the rest of the screen.
Flash days
Our flash day guide says to keep the sheet small, number every design and fix the sizes. Lookbook fits that: a section for the day, a number on every design, and a sold-out switch you flip when a one-off is taken. Your line cap and the line closing on time still apply.
After the day, the visits themselves give counts per artist for the night’s split.
Next
Not built yet: a Lookbook tab on your location page to browse by section, private links to a few pictures for one client, add-ons shown beside each picture, and a Lookbook view for the widget on your own website. Paid holds on one-off flash and deposits on a design depend on card payments, which are coming soon (Early Access).
Want one of them sooner, or have something your shop needs? Start the 14-day free trial, which has every Pro feature, and tell us. The tattoo studio page shows how the rest of NextUp Walk-in fits together.
Questions
Is Lookbook available now?
Yes, from October 14, 2026. In the dashboard open Catalog, then Flash & Portfolio (or Lookbook, if you named it that), and add photos to your services.
Which plans have it?
All of them. Walk-in includes 300 photos per location, Pro 1,500, and the free trial has the Pro limits. Up to 12 photos per design.
Will customers need an app to see the flash?
No. The “Pick a look” grid is on the join form they already open from your QR code or link, and the TV shows designs on its own.
Does picking a design change the service or the wait?
No. It is a note on their ticket for your artist. The service they chose still sets the time. It is not shown on the TV or to other customers.
Can I keep some designs private?
Private links for one client are not built yet. A design with the Lookbook switch off is not shown to customers.
