Running the line at a car wash or detail shop: mixed jobs, drop-off forms and booked details
A 15-minute express wash and a three-hour detail do not belong in the same queue, and neither does a driver asking “how long?” every ten minutes. A car wash or detail shop needs a line that knows what each job takes, lets drivers wait anywhere, and records the condition of the car before the work starts. Here is how to set that up.
Why the first sunny Saturday breaks a paper list
Cars back up into the street, jobs are different sizes, and the person at the entrance has no way to tell the next driver when to expect a bay. A virtual line moves the waiting off your lot: drivers scan the sign at the entrance, join from their phone and see their place live, then run an errand or get lunch.
Give every job its own time
The starter menu has express, full-service and hand wash, interior detail, full detail and ceramic coating, with add-ons such as tire shine, hand wax, pet hair removal and headlight restoration. You can edit all of it. Each package and add-on has its own time and price, so the wait follows what is actually in line: three express washes ahead is a short wait, and one full detail ahead is a long one. Read how to estimate walk-in wait times for the formula behind it.
Record the condition at drop-off
The car-wash starter includes a vehicle condition form: year, make and color, plate, existing scratches, dents and chips, “valuables taken out”, and the OK to the quoted work with a promise to ask before anything extra. The driver signs it on their phone and it is filed on their profile. That is the answer to “that scratch was not there before”. Skip it for express washes where it would only slow the line.
You can also ask up to five questions at check-in, such as year, make, color and plate, so your team knows the car before it is in the bay.
Keep the line from running past closing
Set a line cap and a closing time so a long detail cannot be joined at 5:45 for a 6:00 close. The lobby TV can show who is in the bay and who is next, with a QR code to join and the local forecast. The waiting-room TV guide covers what else belongs on it.
Fill slow weekdays with booked details
On the Pro plan, book full details and ceramic coatings as appointments beside the walk-in line. Deposits and a card on file come with card payments, which are coming soon. A flash sale such as “Wednesday interiors 20% off” goes on the booking page. A wash club is a membership, and “5 hand washes” is a package; see memberships and packages.

Questions
Do drivers need an app?
No. They scan a QR code or open a link and join from their phone’s browser.
Can a detail be booked ahead?
Yes, on the Pro plan, beside the walk-in line. Walk-in customers join the line at the sign.
Is the condition form required?
No. It is a starter form you can ask for on certain services only, such as full details, and skip for express washes.
