Walk-in and flash day software for tattoo shops
Flash days without a line down the block, and consent signed before they take a spot.
Walk-ins join from your Instagram link or the door code, sign your consent form on their phone, pick an artist or "Anyone", and wait wherever they like. Booked sessions, deposits and booth rent sit right beside the line.

Friday night at the tattoo studio, and walk-ins are lining up for flash. The shop is loud, the artists are busy, and nobody knows who's next.
Customers scan a code at the door and join your line from their own phone. No app to download, and no account to make. They can grab dinner nearby, and come back when it's their turn.
The TV in your lobby shows who's up next, and an honest wait, so nobody has to ask how much longer.
Ace calls the next client with a tap, starts the session, and finishes up. No sign-in clipboard, and no shouting over the machines.
Start with a list of services made for tattoo studios, and NextUp Walk-in uses their times to keep every wait honest.
Insights show your busiest days and hours, your average wait, and how many clients you served, so you know when to put another artist on the walk-in list.
At our demo studio, Ace's next client is already on the way, and the lobby stays quiet. Yours can run the same way.
Try our live demo line at nextupwalkin.com/demo, and start your fourteen-day free trial.
What walk-ins are like today
Where the time goes today, before anything changes.

Flash day lines
A line down the block, and nobody knows how long it really is or when to stop taking names.
Paperwork at the counter
Clipboards, IDs and consent forms slow every check-in, and the paper ends up in a box.
Artists pulled off the chair to answer the door.
Sessions you can't time
A lobe piercing takes 15 minutes and a palm-sized flash takes two hours.
Renters and deposits
Tracking which deposit belongs to which artist, and who owes rent.
How NextUp Walk-in helps
What changes once the line lives on a phone, not on paper.
Join from anywhere
Share the link on Instagram before the doors open.
Booth rent, sorted
With NextUp Walk-in’s Pro plan, collect each artist's rent on schedule. Renters see their own clients' tips and deposits on their statement.
Waivers signed first
The consent form is signed on their phone before they take a spot.

Walk-ins and flash days
Every plan
- Lookbook, named Flash & Portfolio. Photos on your designs, in sections like a flash day, with a design number and a sold-out switch. People pick a design from the grid when they join, and the artist sees it on the ticket. Every plan.
- Open the line on Instagram before the doors open. People join from the link and see their place and the wait.
- Cap the line. Set how many can wait at once. When it's reached, the Check-in Page and Door Tablet say "The line is full right now", so you stop taking names cleanly.
- Pick from today's flash and services (small flash, medium flash, lobe, cartilage or nostril piercing, jewelry change). Each counts for its own time in the wait.
- Artist or "Anyone". Walk-ups for a quick piercing take the next opening, and people who want a specific artist see that artist's wait. Artists can post a delay message to the people waiting for them.
- Up to five questions on the join form, such as placement and size, which artists see on the Staff Screen.
- The TV and Door Tablet in your studio's look, with a QR code to join when the line's empty.
Consent before the chair
- Your consent form, signed on their phone. Start from the tattoo-and-piercing template (date of birth, 18+ or a parent present where the law allows, pregnancy, blood thinners, healing, risks and aftercare), and edit it to your state's rules.
- Required forms block the line until they're signed. Choose once, every visit or once a year. The signed copy, with signature, time and IP address, is filed on the client's profile.
Reference photos, photo ID and aftercare
Every plan
On by default for tattoo studios, and you can switch either one off per location. Photos are private: only your team sees them, and the customer never gets a link to one.
- Reference photos with the spot or the booking. Clients send up to 3 reference images, plus the body part, a size (small, medium, large or extra large) and a note. The artist sees them on the ticket, with what came with a booked appointment.
- Photo ID, where you ask for it. A client can send a photo of their ID and tick that it is OK to share. It is deleted 7 days after the visit, and reference photos after 90 days. NextUp Walk-in does not check the ID or the age, so keep checking at the counter.
- Aftercare by email. Write the aftercare on each service, and it is emailed an hour after the session is done, to an address the client gave and never to one that unsubscribed.
- A healed-photo follow-up. Pick the number of days, and the client gets an email asking them to send or show a photo of how it healed.
- Allergies and placement notes on the client. A tattoo record under Trade details keeps allergies, which are flagged first on the staff screen, and placement notes.
Booked sessions
Pro
- Flash with a price, and one-of-a-kind designs that can be claimed. Each design in the Style Book carries a price. Mark a design as one-off and the first booking for it claims it: the second is refused with "That design has been claimed", and the public page reads "Claimed" until that booking is cancelled. The deposit is your usual booking deposit.
- Deposits on booking, with a refund cutoff you set (24 hours by default). An unpaid booking lets its time go after 30 minutes.
- No-show fees charged by staff from the deposit or the card on file.
- Multi-session pieces: book a weekly, every-two-weeks or monthly series of up to 12 sessions in one go.
- Consultations as their own short service on the booking page.
- A booking link for each artist, with up to 12 photos of their work, and an "Our work" gallery on your Check-in Page.
Artist pages and studio records
Every plan
- A public page for each artist: their photo, up to 12 photos of their work, the services they do with prices, their rating, "Join my line" while they are on duty, their delay note and the Instagram name they set.
- Licences and insurance per artist, including the tattoo and bloodborne-pathogens types, with number, state, expiry and a photo. Owners get an email 30 and 7 days before one expires.
- A cleaning log with a tattoo starter list, ticked from the staff screen, kept as an append-only record you can print or download as a CSV for an inspector.
- Customer screens in seven languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Haitian Creole and Simplified Chinese.
Renters and artist pay
- Booth rent (Pro) weekly, every two weeks or monthly, from a saved card or bank account, or off their statement.
- Renters' own clients' tips and deposits show on their statement, and can sell their own memberships and run their own punch card in their own sign-in.
- Commission (Pro) for employees, tip pools (Pro), cash advances (Pro) and payroll files (Pro).
Checkout (not another POS)
- Cash, a pay link or QR, a saved card or a Stripe S700 reader. The deposit comes off the bill automatically.
- Aftercare kits and jewelry as products with stock.
- Gift cards (Pro) for the holidays, and store credit (Pro).
- NextUp Walk-in's card fee is 0.5% of card payments, never on tips, at most $1 a payment, on top of Stripe's processing fee.
Fill the books
- Flash sales on the booking page (Pro), with tattoo ideas in the built-in library.
- Email campaigns with tattoo templates (Pro) to clients who opted in.
- Ratings and your Google review link after every session.
Smarter waits
Every plan
- Best time to come today. The Check-in Page shows the lowest expected wait by quarter-hour for the rest of today, from the same weekday over the last 8 weeks and the live line, so someone with time to spare comes when it is quietest.
- Each artist's own wait. When clients choose who serves them, the Check-in Page shows every artist's wait next to their name, plus "First available". Once called, they see a range ("called in about 15–25 min") worked out from each person's real service times.
- "Tell me when the wait is shorter." When the wait is over 10 minutes, a customer can ask to be told when it drops, by email.
- Family tickets. Friends getting matching pieces check in once. Each gets their own place, service and artist.
- Overflow between locations. If another of your locations nearby has a much shorter wait for the same services, the join page offers a move there and keeps the customer’s place fair. For businesses with more than one location, so on paid plans (Free is one location).
- Seven languages for customer screens: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Haitian Creole and Simplified Chinese. The newest six are machine-drafted, and corrections are welcome.
On the floor
- A button at each artist's station. Every team member gets a secret link to open on a spare phone or tablet at their station. One big button finishes the current visit and calls the next client, hands free.
- A page for each artist. A team member with a booking handle gets a public page with their photo, services and prices, and the live wait or booking.
- Visit photos and "Last time" (Pro). Up to 3 photos and a note per visit, added after the client says OK to a photo: a photo of the finished piece, placement and the notes for a touch-up. It shows on the Staff Screen when they are called.
- On the TV (all opt-in): a full-screen "You’re up!" with the first name, the team member’s photo and a chime; spoken call-ups in English or Spanish; a large-text, high-contrast view; and rotating content between calls (the wait, flash sales (Pro), recent 4 and 5 star reviews, the best time to visit). The Apple TV and Roku apps show the spotlight, chime and rotating wait, sales and review cards; spoken call-ups, the large-text view and the best-time slide are on the web TV.
Bring regulars back
- Overdue regulars (Pro). Sessions are months apart, so a client who started a sleeve and went quiet shows up in a list. Clients past their usual gap with nothing booked, most overdue first, one tap to reach out by email (only to those who opted in).
- One-tap rebook (Pro). At checkout and on the Done banner, "Book their next visit" offers the 3 open times nearest the client’s own rhythm, with the same services and person.
- Loyalty streaks and tiers (Pro) on top of stamp cards: on-schedule streaks and tiers you name, with a perk for each.
- Client referrals (Pro, off until you switch them on). "Give a friend $5 off, get $5 store credit", paid for by you, with a yearly cap per client.
- First-visit certificate (every plan). A printable, shareable certificate for a client’s first visit.
Licences, cleaning and insight
- Licences and insurance for each team member, with expiry reminders: tattoo or body-art licence and bloodborne pathogens certificate, and booth renter or liability insurance.
- A cleaning log for each location, from a starter list for this trade (autoclave cycle, spore test result with its reading, sharps container, fresh gloves and barrier film), ticked off per shift and printable for an inspector.
- Ask about your business (Pro). Plain-language questions about your own numbers, from Help, like "Which day was slowest last month?".
- How you compare (Pro): your median wait, no-show rate, rebook rate and average ticket against other tattoo studios of your size, over 90 days.
- Suggested team on duty and review themes (Pro), plus a weekly "This week, try" on every plan with up to three actions from your numbers.
Reference photos with the booking
Clients send up to 3 reference photos with the body part and size. Your artist sees them on the ticket.
A flash day with NextUp Walk-in
An example day, hour by hour, with the line on everyone's phone.
- 9:00
You post the join link to your Story. 40 people join before the doors open.
- 10:55
You set a cap of 60. At 11:20 the Check-in Page says the line is full, and nobody waits for nothing.
- 11:00
Doors open. Every client has already signed the consent form on their phone, and it's filed on their profile.
- 11:15
A piercing walk-up picks "Anyone" and is in the chair in 10 minutes. A flash client waits for Jules and sees Jules's wait.
- 12:30
A walk-up wants a cartilage piercing. It counts for 15 minutes in the wait, not two hours, so the Check-in Page quotes him a short wait.
- 1:15
Someone arrives who has not signed the consent form. The Door Tablet will not let her take a spot until she has, so she signs on her phone and joins.
- 2:00
Jules is running long and posts a delay message. Her clients see it right away.
- 3:00
Between clients, an artist ticks the cleaning log on the staff screen. It is dated and saved for the next inspection.
- 4:30
A booked client with a deposit checks in beside the walk-ins and joins the line in his slot.
- 6:00
Checkout: aftercare kits off the shelf, tips to each artist, renters’ takings tracked. Each client gets a review request with your Google link.
- Monday
Insights show the busiest hours, the average wait and how many people left the line, so you know when to open the next flash day.
- Next week
A sleeve client books four sessions every two weeks with a deposit.

Why switch to NextUp Walk-in
- From a tattoo booking app: those are built around the book. One lists a walk-in queue in its help center (help center) and its plans run $35, $65 and $250 a month (pricing page, checked October 26, 2026). NextUp Walk-in adds a live wait on each client’s phone, a line cap that closes the line by itself, a TV and a Door Tablet, from $29 a month per location.
- From a general booking app: those charge $10 to $20 a month for each extra person on the plans we checked. NextUp Walk-in includes 3 team members per location, then $10 each (see the comparisons).
- From a clipboard: consent is signed on the phone before a spot in line, and the signed copy is filed on the client, not in a box.
- Your clients stay yours: your booking page shows only your studio. There is no marketplace listing another studio next to you.
- Where we are not the fit yet: there are no stencil or design-approval tools, no age verification on a photo ID, and texts are not live, so aftercare goes by email. If those matter most, keep your booking app for them and use NextUp Walk-in for the line.
- Switching offer: your first month free on monthly billing with the code SWITCH. Import your client list yourself in a few minutes. You see every row before it saves, and you can undo it for 7 days. Questions? Email us.

Tattoo studios: common questions
How do I run a flash day without a line down the block?
Share your check-in link on Instagram before the doors open, and people join from their phone. They see their place and the wait live. Set a cap, and the Check-in Page says the line is full when you reach it.
Can clients sign a waiver or consent form before they join?
Yes. Start from the tattoo-and-piercing template and edit it for your state. A required form has to be signed on their phone before they join or book, and the signed copy, with the time it was signed, is filed on their profile. Check your local health department's rules.
Can I take deposits for booked sessions?
Yes, with NextUp Walk-in’s Pro plan. Require a deposit or card on file when someone books. Cancellations before your refund cutoff are refunded automatically, and later ones keep the deposit.
Can I book a multi-session piece?
Yes, with NextUp Walk-in’s Pro plan. Book a series weekly, every two weeks or monthly, up to 12 sessions at once.
Can clients ask for a specific artist?
Yes. The join form lists today's artists with photos and each artist's wait, and "Anyone" comes first for walk-ups.
Do booth renters get their own clients' money?
Yes. Their clients' tips and deposits show on their statement, and with NextUp Walk-in’s Pro plan their rent is collected on schedule.
Can I show my artists' work?
Yes. Your Check-in Page can show up to 24 photos, and each artist's booking link up to 12 of their own.
Can clients upload reference photos or a photo ID?
Yes. When they join or book, a client can send up to 3 reference photos with the body part, a size and a note, and, if you ask for it, a photo of their ID with a tick that it is OK to share. Only your staff see them, on the ticket. The photos are private, the ID is deleted 7 days after the visit and the reference photos after 90 days. NextUp Walk-in does not check the ID or the age: that stays your job, so keep checking ID at the counter. You can switch either one off for a location.
What about aftercare, licences and inspections?
Write the aftercare on each service, and it is emailed an hour after the session is done; you can also ask for a healed photo some days later. Texts are not live, so these go by email. Aftercare kits are products with stock. Artist licences and insurance are tracked with expiry reminders, and the cleaning log can be printed or downloaded for an inspector. Check your local health department’s rules.
How much does a tattoo shop waitlist app cost?
The Walk-in plan is $29 a month for your first location and $19 for each additional one, with the TV screen and the door tablet. Pro, at $59 and $39, adds appointments, deposits, memberships, commissions and payroll. Both include 3 team members per location, then $10 a month each. The 14-day free trial includes every Pro feature. A card is needed to start, but nothing is charged until the trial ends, when the plan is charged unless you cancel first. There is also a Free plan: 1 location, 1 team member and 50 check-ins a month, and no card needed.

Your next flash day, without the line.
Set up your first location in about two minutes. Your line can be live before your next walk-in.
