Friday night, a full house, and a crowd at the door. NextUp Walk-in's Restaurant plan runs the waitlist and the floor together.
Guests join the waitlist from their phone with their party size, and watch the wait on the TV, or check in at a tablet by the door.
Your host calls the next party from the staff screen, and the TV shows who's up.
In Station View, the host sees every table live, with each party's time and server, and seats the next party with a tap.
Your server adds the order by seat: a pizza for seat one, pasta for seat two, and a starter to share.
Lay out your dining room once in the floor plan editor: tables, sections, and seats.
The Restaurant plan is sixty-nine dollars a month for your first location, with everything in Pro, no seat charge for your team, and no per-cover fee. Start your fourteen-day free trial at nextupwalkin.com.
What a Friday at 7 looks like today

A crowd at the host stand
Parties hover by the door because that's the only way to keep their place.
A paper chart
The host can't see at a glance which tables are open, seated or waiting for the check.
Orders by memory
Servers carry tickets and add-ons by hand, and a busy section turns into a game of telephone.
The check takes forever
Six friends, one card machine, and everyone wants to pay for their own plate.
Per-cover fees on every party a reservation network sends you.
Everything your floor needs
Four modules that work together from the moment you open.
Live floor plan
Build your layout in minutes. Drag tables, label sections, color-code by status. Every host and server sees the same floor, live. No reloading, no stale paper chart.
- Drag-and-drop table placement
- Sections: main room, bar, patio
- Colour status: open, seated, check requested
- Server assignment per table
QR ordering at the table
Guests scan the QR code printed on their table. Your menu loads instantly — no app, no sign-up. Orders show on your floor the moment they confirm.
- One QR code per table, printed in seconds
- Your menu with descriptions and prices
- Servers take orders too, each item for a seat
- Guests can add items any time
Pay at the table
Tap the table and its bill is there, every order on it. Show a QR and guests pay on their phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, or take cash or a card reader at the table. You see each payment settle before they stand up.
- Split the bill by seat, by item or by amount
- Each guest tips on their own share
- Powered by Stripe — payments land in your account
- Apple Pay and Google Pay in one tap
- No per-cover fee; NextUp Walk-in's card fee is 0.5%, at most $1 a payment
Every table, live, in the station view
See every table, every new order and every unpaid bill on one screen. Nothing falls through the cracks during a rush.
- Each table's status, live: available or seated, and free again once paid
- New orders from the table's QR code, counted on the table until seen
- Tables by section, with each party's size, time seated and server
- Works in any browser, on a tablet, phone or computer

How NextUp Walk-in runs your floor
Everything below comes with the Restaurant plan, which includes everything in Pro.
The waitlist
Every Restaurant plan
- Join from the door or online. Guests scan the QR at the entrance or tap your link, and add a name and party size (up to 20). No app, no account.
- Wait anywhere. Their place and the quoted wait live on their phone, so they can sit at the bar or take a walk.
- Turn times you set, by party size. Give up to six size bands their own turn time (say 1-2 people 45 minutes, 3-4 people 60, 5-6 people 80, 7 or more 100) and the quote adds up each waiting party’s own band, so a party of eight in line is not counted like a couple. Leave the bands empty to keep one average turn time. Servers on duty still drive the quote, and Insights shows how close quotes came to real waits.
- Walk-ups and phone-ins are added from the host stand into the same list.
- "Are you still coming?" for parties who stepped out, and the no-show timer clears parties who don't come back.
- The lobby TV shows the waitlist and can show your floor, with the table pulsing when its party is called.
The live floor plan
- Build your room in minutes. Drag tables, set shapes and seats, label sections (main room, bar, patio, private dining), add more than one floor, and add decorations.
- Status at a glance: open, seated, or free again once paid, with each party's size, time seated and server.
- Seat a party with one tap, and assign a server to each table.
QR ordering at the table
- One code per table, printed in seconds. Guests scan, see your menu with descriptions and prices, and add to the order any time.
- Orders land on the floor and in the station view, counted on the table until a server marks them seen.
- Servers take orders too, each item on a seat, from their own sign-in on any tablet or phone.
The station view
Every table, every new order and every unpaid bill on one screen, by section, with party size, time seated and server. It runs in any browser.
Pay at the table, split any way
- Tap a table and its bill is there, with every order from the server and the QR on it.
- Split by seat, by item, by amount or evenly (2–20 ways). Each guest pays their share on their own phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, and tips on their own share.
- Or take cash, a Stripe S700 reader or a saved card at the table. The last payment frees the table.
- Sales tax per location, receipts by email, page or PDF, and an end-of-night close-out.
- No per-cover fee. NextUp Walk-in's card fee is 0.5% of card payments, never on tips, at most $1 a payment, on top of Stripe's processing fee.
The door and the room
- Called tables stand out. A spoken call-up (English or Spanish), a chime and an opt-in full-screen "You're up!" on the lobby TV, with a large-text, high-contrast view for guests who need it.
- Guest records. A profile for every guest who leaves a mobile number, with visit history and tags, so a regular is recognised at the host stand. Guests can delete their own details.
- Seven languages for guest screens: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Haitian Creole and Simplified Chinese.
What it does not do
- No table reservations, no connection to another point-of-sale system, no kitchen display and no ticket printer. Keep a reservation system for bookings, and use NextUp Walk-in for the walk-in door, the floor and the table's bill.
- Guests see their place on their phone and can ask to be told by email when the wait drops.
Everything in Pro, too
Gift cards, loyalty stamp cards, email campaigns with restaurant templates (to guests who ticked "Stay in the loop"), tip pools by hours or points, payroll files for Gusto, ADP or QuickBooks, and no charge for team members on the Restaurant plan. Menu sales show as "Food & drink" in your reports and the accountant package.
Smarter waits
Every plan
- Best time to come today. The Check-in Page shows the lowest expected wait by quarter-hour for the rest of today, from the same weekday over the last 8 weeks and the live line, so someone with time to spare comes when it is quietest.
- "Tell me when the wait is shorter." When the wait is over 10 minutes, a customer can ask to be told when it drops, by email.
- Overflow between locations. If another of your locations nearby has a much shorter wait for the same services, the join page offers a move there and keeps the customer’s place fair. For businesses with more than one location, so on paid plans (Free is one location).
- Seven languages for customer screens: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Haitian Creole and Simplified Chinese. The newest six are machine-drafted, and corrections are welcome.
On the floor
- On the TV (all opt-in): a full-screen "You’re up!" with the first name, the team member’s photo and a chime; spoken call-ups in English or Spanish; a large-text, high-contrast view; and rotating content between calls (the wait, flash sales (Pro), recent 4 and 5 star reviews, the best time to visit). The Apple TV and Roku apps show the spotlight, chime and rotating wait, sales and review cards; spoken call-ups, the large-text view and the best-time slide are on the web TV.
Licences, cleaning and insight
- Licences and insurance for each team member, with expiry reminders: food handler certificate and food manager certificate, and booth renter or liability insurance.
- A cleaning log for each location, from a starter list for this trade (fridge, freezer and hot-holding temperatures with their readings, sanitize food-contact surfaces, sanitizer strength), ticked off per shift and printable for an inspector.
- Ask about your business (Pro). Plain-language questions about your own numbers, from Help, like "Which day was slowest last month?".
- How you compare (Pro): your median wait, no-show rate, rebook rate and average ticket against other restaurants of your size, over 90 days.
- Suggested team on duty and review themes (Pro), plus a weekly "This week, try" on every plan with up to three actions from your numbers.
Friday at 7 pm. Every table in view.
Host, servers and manager all see the same floor, live — no reloading, no paper chart, no shouting across the room.
A Friday with NextUp Walk-in
An example day, hour by hour, with the line on everyone's phone.
- 6:30
14 parties on the waitlist. Most are at the bar or across the street, watching their place on their phone.
- 6:45
The host taps T3, seats the Okafor party of 6 and assigns Alex. The TV pulses their table when they're called.
- 7:05
T3 scans the table code and orders two starters. They show on the floor and in the station view straight away.
- 7:20
Alex adds mains by seat from his phone.
- 8:40
Check: split by seat. Four guests pay on their phones and two put cash on the table. Each tip stays on its own share.
- 8:42
The last payment frees T3, and the host seats the next party.
- 9:15
A party that stepped out answers "Are you still coming?" with "10 minutes". The no-show timer waits, then clears anyone who never comes back.
- 10:00
The host checks Insights: quoted waits ran 4 minutes over real ones, so tomorrow's turn time for parties of five or six is set lower.
- 11:30
Close-out: card, cash and tips by server, and the drawer counted.
The whole visit, from their phone.
From the parking lot to the tip — guests join the wait, order at the table and pay before they stand up. No app, no sign-in, no flagging down a server for the check.
Guests scan the QR at the door, add their name and party size, and they're in line — before they've even stepped inside.
Every table has a QR code. Guests pick from your full menu, add items any time, and orders show on your floor the moment they confirm.
The bill comes up as a QR code. Each seat can pay its own share with Apple Pay or Google Pay, and you see it settle in real time, no terminal required.
Up and running before your next service
Three steps from sign-up to a live floor.
Build your floor
Drag tables to match your room, add sections (bar, patio, private dining), assign servers. Done in minutes.
Print the QR codes

Manage the rush
See every table's status, pending orders and bill from any screen. Host, server and manager all see the same floor, live.
Simple pricing, per location

Restaurants: common questions
How does the restaurant waitlist work?
Guests scan the QR code at your door or tap your link, add their name and party size, and see their place and the wait live on their phone. The host seats them from the floor plan when a table is ready.
How does the live floor plan work?
Drag tables into your real layout, with sections and more than one floor if you need it. Each table shows whether it's open or seated, the party, the server and pending orders, and you seat a party with one tap.
Can guests order from their phone at the table?
Yes. Guests scan the table's QR code, browse your menu and send orders, with no app. New orders show on the floor and in the station view until a server marks them seen.
Can a table split the bill?
Yes: by seat, by item, by amount or evenly. Each guest pays their share on their own phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card and tips on their own share, or pays with cash or a card reader at the table.
Does NextUp Walk-in replace my restaurant POS?
No. NextUp Walk-in runs the waitlist, the floor, table ordering and payment for the table's bill. It doesn't connect to other POS systems, and it has no kitchen display or ticket printer.
Can I take reservations?
Not table reservations. NextUp Walk-in is built for walk-in parties and the floor. If you rely on reservations from a diner network, keep that system for bookings.
Is there a per-cover fee?
No. The Restaurant plan is a flat monthly price per location, with no per-cover fee and no charge for team members. Card payments carry Stripe's fee plus NextUp Walk-in's 0.5% card fee, at most $1 a payment and never on tips.
Can servers take orders on their phones?
Yes. Servers with their own sign-in run the floor at their location: seat, order by seat, move items between seats and check out.
What device does the host stand need?
Any tablet or laptop with a browser. Servers use their own phones or tablets, and a TV with a streaming device can show the waitlist and the floor.
Does the quote learn from party size or table type?
Party size, if you set it. Give up to six size bands their own turn time (for example 1-2 people 45 minutes, 7 or more 100), and the quote adds up each waiting party’s own band. It is a number you set, not a model that learns, and it does not look at table type. Leave the bands empty to use one average turn time. Insights shows how close quotes came to real waits so you can adjust.
How much does NextUp Walk-in cost for a restaurant?
The Restaurant plan is $69 a month for your first location and $44 for each additional one ($690 and $440 a year). There's no per-cover fee and no charge for team members. There's a 14-day free trial. A card is needed to start, but nothing is charged until the trial ends, when the plan is charged unless you cancel first. For a simple waitlist there is also a Free plan: 1 location, 1 team member and 50 check-ins a month, without the floor plan, table ordering or texts, and no card needed.
