QR code check-in
QR code check-in lets a customer scan a printed code with their phone camera to join a waitlist, with no app to install and no paper to sign.
Also called: scan to join, QR waitlist, scan-to-check-in
A QR code is a square that holds a web address. When a customer points their camera at it, the phone opens that page. For a walk-in shop, the page is a join form, and the result is a place in line created from the customer own phone.
The practical effect is that the line moves out of the lobby. A customer can scan at the window, step outside or sit in the car, and watch their place update. Your waiting area stays calm, and a crowded Saturday does not force people to stand.
Placement is what makes it work. Put the code on the door, the window and the counter, large enough to scan from a short distance, with a few words that explain it. A code printed small on a back wall gets ignored.
How NextUp Walk-in handles it
Customers scan the location QR code, enter a first and last name, choose services and a team member, and join the line. No app is needed. The QR code can be printed from the setup guide, and the TV shows one when the line is empty.
Questions
Do customers need an app to scan a QR code?
No. Modern phone cameras read QR codes directly and open the web page, so the customer does not install anything.
