Waitwhile alternatives for walk-in businesses

Waitwhile runs virtual lines for many industries. If you’re looking for something else, whether for price, texts or a closer fit for your kind of business, here are the alternatives, with figures from their own pricing pages and who each one honestly suits.

What to look for

How texts are paid for

Some apps include a monthly text allowance, some sell credits, and some send email only on the free plan. Work out what your volume costs.

Per location, per user or per visit

Prices are set per location, per staff member, per queue join or per deployment. The same shop can cost very different amounts.

Built for your kind of line

Enterprise queueing for clinics and government counters is a different product from a walk-in line for a barbershop, salon or restaurant.

Our app: NextUp Walk-in

We make this one, so it isn’t ranked against the others.

A walk-in line first: customers join from a QR code or a link with no app to download and follow their live place on their phone, a now-serving TV display shows who is up next, and a door tablet checks in walk-ins without a phone. The Walk-in plan is $29 a month for the first location and $19 for each one after, with 3 team members included at each; Pro ($59) adds online booking and deposits beside the line. Tips and card payments go through your own Stripe account; NextUp Walk-in’s card fee is 0.5% of each card payment, never on tips, at most $1. Texting is on paid plans (text alerts coming soon).

See pricing

Waitwhile starts at $31 a month (Starter), with a free plan for 1 location and up to 50 visits a month; texts are bought separately as prepaid credits. It is built for many industries, including restaurants, retail, healthcare and government.

Common questions

How did you pick these alternatives?

They are the waitlist and queue apps we have full comparison pages for, each checked against the app’s own pricing page on the date shown. They are listed alphabetically, not ranked. We make NextUp Walk-in, so it is shown separately and labelled as ours.

Can I move my customers over from Waitwhile?

Into NextUp Walk-in, yes: import the export from your old system (Excel, CSV, Google Sheets or contacts), and NextUp Walk-in matches the columns and checks every row before anything is saved. For other apps, check their own import options.
