Scan. Join. Done. Your customers don’t need an app

Ask a walk-in to download an app, make an account and confirm an email before they can get in line, and a good share of them will just leave. Customers forced to download an app or log in is one of the most common complaints in App Store reviews of booking and waitlist apps. NextUp Walk-in skips all of it: scan, join, done.

What customers complain about

Competitive Intel read 783 recent 1–3 star App Store reviews of 14 booking and waitlist apps in October 2026. Being made to download an app, make an account or log in came up in 116 of them. The pattern is familiar: someone is standing in your doorway, the app won’t load or won’t accept their sign-up, and the line moves on without them.

A walk-in has decided to come in right now. Every extra step between your door and their place in line is a chance for them to change their mind.

How joining works in NextUp Walk-in

Customers scan the QR code on your door or counter, tap your link on Instagram or Google, or use a tablet at the door. They type a first name, choose a service and, if you allow it, a team member, and they are in line. The join pages work in English and Spanish.

There is no app to install and no account or password to make. The page opens in the phone’s own browser, so it works the same on an iPhone or an Android phone. See how to set up a QR code check-in for where to put the code.

What they see after joining

Each customer gets their own live page with their place in line, how many people are ahead and the estimated wait. It updates by itself, with no refreshing. From it they can say they are running late, answer “Are you still coming?”, share their spot with a friend or leave the line. More on that in always know your spot in line.

When it is their turn, the page says so. Alerts come by push or email for now; texts are coming soon.

Your team doesn’t need an app either

The staff screen, the TV display and the door tablet all run in a web browser, so the front desk needs nothing installed. The NextUp Walk-in apps are there if you want them, not a requirement. Pricing is per location, on the pricing page.

Questions

Do customers need to download an app to join the line?

No. They join from a QR code, a link or a tablet at the door, and follow their place in line in their phone’s browser. No app and no account.

What if a customer doesn’t have a smartphone?

Your team can add them to the line from the staff screen, or they can join on the tablet at the door.
