## What the columns are for

Child and age tell the stylist who is in the chair. A toddler on a first cut needs a different pace than a ten-year-old who wants a fade.

The grown-up column is the name you call out when the child is nervous, and it helps when a parent is signing in two or three kids on one line.

The cut boxes sort quick trims from fuller cuts and styles. A bang trim takes minutes, and the next family hears that before they decide to wait.

The "1st cut" box is for the staff. A first haircut takes patience and often a keepsake, so tick it and plan a longer slot.

## When the clipboard stops working

Paper works while the lobby is small. It stops when people look at a full room and leave without signing, when customers wait for one person, or when someone asks "how long?" and nobody knows. A sheet records arrivals. It can't show a wait, and it can't tell anyone it's their turn.

NextUp Walk-in is the same list on a phone. Customers scan a code at the door, see their place and wait, and follow it live from anywhere (text alerts coming soon). A TV in the lobby shows who's next. It's free for one location, one team member and 50 check-ins a month; paid plans, with the lobby TV, start at $29 a month for the first location, with a 14-day free trial. ## Common questions

Why is there no phone number column?

A sign-in sheet sits on the counter where every customer can read it. A column of names and phone numbers is a list anyone can photograph. If you want to text people when it is their turn, take the number somewhere private, such as a phone Check-in Page that only the shop can see.

How do I sign in more than one child?

Use one line per child, so the order stays fair, and write the same grown-up name on each. Call siblings together if two chairs are free.

Should I put the age on the sheet?

A number is enough, and it helps the stylist plan. Leave birthdays and last names off the sheet, since everyone at the counter can read it.

How do I keep wait times short for kids?

Tell the family the likely wait before they sign, and call by the grown-up's name when a chair opens. Ticking "Done" as each child leaves keeps the next name easy to find.

What about a first haircut?

Tick the "1st cut" box. A first haircut usually takes more time, and the shop may want a photo or a keepsake lock, so give that family the slot they need.

Is this sign-in sheet free?

Yes. Print as many as you like, with no account and no email.
