# Waiting room display (TV)

A waiting room display is a screen in the lobby that shows who is being called and who is next, so customers know their turn without staff announcing it.

Also called: waiting room TV, queue display, lobby screen

The display does one thing the clipboard cannot: it tells the whole room, at once, what is happening. A name appears when it is called. The next few are listed. The wait is visible. Customers stop asking the front desk where they stand.

What you put on it matters. The call-up should be large and readable from the far wall. Everything else, like the weather, a message or style photos, is secondary and should step aside when someone is being called.

Any ordinary TV can do the job, from a streaming stick, a smart TV or a small box behind it. The question is whether it stays on and reconnects after a power cut, since a blank screen on a Saturday is worse than none.

## How NextUp Walk-in handles it

The TV Display is connected to the queue with a six-character pairing code, and runs in a web browser, the Apple TV app and the Roku app. It speaks names if you turn that on, can show weather in the US, and shows a QR code when the line is empty. A call-up spotlight and rotating content are optional.

What should a waiting room TV show?

First, who is being called and who is next. After that, the current wait and short, useful extras. Keep the call-up readable from every seat.
