# Floor Plan Calling: Show Them the Way | NextUp Walk-in

Source: https://nextupwalkin.com/features/floor-plan-calling

> Call a customer and the TV shows the route to their chair, with the same route on their phone. On the Walk-in and Pro plans, not on Free.

Walk-in and Pro

# Call them. Show them the way.

When you call someone, the TV shows the route to the chair, and a code puts the same route on their phone. No hunting for the right chair, and no staff member pointing.

[Start your free trial](https://nextupwalkin.com/signup) [How it works](https://nextupwalkin.com/features/floor-plan-calling#how)

- Route on the TV
- Same route on their phone
- Walk time counted
- Updates if you change the chair

## “Which chair is mine?”

A name on a screen tells someone they are up. It doesn’t tell them where to go. Floor plan calling does.

“Chair 9, on the right. Got it.”The TV shows the way, and the same route can go to their phone.

## The whole TV, pointing the way

Call the next person and the waiting-area TV changes from a name to a route: the room, the door they came in by, and the chair to walk to.

- **The route, not just a name.**The TV draws the path from where it hangs to the chair, around walls and furniture.
- **Words and a picture.**Plain directions such as “Chair 5, on the right”, read from where the TV is.
- **Each TV has its own starting point.**Set the door, front desk or waiting area each screen is read from, and which way viewers face.
- **Upstairs too.**If the chair is on another floor, the directions say to take the stairs first.

## Take the route with you

The TV shows a code. Scanning it opens the route on the customer’s own phone, so they can walk while they read it.

- **No app to install.**It opens in the browser, in your colors, like the ticket page.
- **Starts from the screen they scanned.**The phone knows where they are because of the code they scanned. It never reads their location.
- **Walk time, in plain words.**Who they are walking to, which chair, and about how long it will take.
- **“I’m on my way” and “I’m here”.**Two taps tell your team the customer is walking and has arrived.

## Your team sees them coming

The chairs on your Staff Screen show who is walking over, and how long until the person in a chair is likely to be done.

- **Walking, with a time.**A chair shows the customer’s first name and about how long their walk is.
- **A hint on busy chairs.**Expected time left in the chair beside the walk time, so you know when to call.
- **A fair no-show clock.**With a called-no-show timer set, a far or upstairs chair gets extra time first, and someone who has arrived is never marked a no-show automatically.
- **It follows your change.**Call them to a different team member and the route changes on the TV and the phone, which says so.

## One call, from the first tap to the chair

Scroll to follow a customer from being called to sitting down.

- Step 1

### Someone is called

You call the next person from the Staff Screen. The waiting-area TV shows their name, and their phone says “You’re up!”.

- Step 2

### The TV shows the way

The name gives way to the room: where the TV hangs, the route round the furniture, and the chair, with the team member’s name over it.

- Step 3

### The route is in their hand

A code on the TV opens the same route on their own phone, in your colors, with how long the walk is. Nothing to install.

- Step 4

### Your team sees them coming

Tap “I’m on my way” and the chair shows who is walking over and for how long. Busy chairs say when it is time to call.

## How it works

- 1

### Draw your room

Place chairs, doors and your TVs on the Layout Map, and put each team member on a chair.

- 2

### Call someone

The TV shows the route and a code. The customer can walk it from the screen or from their phone.

- 3

### See them arrive

The chair shows them walking, then here, and the no-show clock allows for the walk.

## Who it’s for

-

### Barbershop

A long shop with the waiting area at the front. “Chair 5, on the right” and a path on the TV beat shouting down the room.

-

### Salon

Stations upstairs and down. The route says to take the stairs, then which station.

-

### Tattoo studio

Artists at separate stations. A client who has never been in sees the way to their artist’s station.

## The small things

-

### You choose what the TV shows

Show the chair map always on the right, with each chair open or busy; show only the directions when someone is called; or show neither.

-

### More than one TV

Each TV is read from its own spot, and one is the main screen for the rest.

-

### No names on the screen

The route data names no client, and the phone page never shows a client’s name.

-

### Reduced motion

The route page respects a phone’s reduced-motion setting.

-

### In your customer’s language

The route page is written in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.

## Questions

Which plans have it?

The Walk-in and Pro plans, and the free trial. It is not on the Free plan, and restaurants use the restaurant floor plan.

Does the customer’s phone share their location?

No. It starts from the screen they scanned, or a landmark they pick. Their location is never read.

Can the TV show only the directions, without the busy and open chairs?

Yes. For each location choose Always show (the chair map on the right, with directions when someone is called), Directions only, or Off.

Do I have to draw a map first?

Yes. The route is worked out from your Layout Map, so draw your chairs and doors there.
