# Tattoo shop waitlist app: walk-ins, flash days and waivers

A tattoo shop waitlist app lets walk-ins join your line from a link or a code on the door, choose an artist or the first one free, and sign the consent form on their phone before they reach the chair. On a flash day it also caps the line, so you stop taking names before the artists run out of time.

## Tattoo shop waitlist app: the short answer

**It is a walk-in line people join from their phone, with the paperwork done before their turn.** They pick an artist or anyone, see their place and wait, and go and get food instead of filling your front room. Your artists stop being pulled off the chair to answer the door.

The ones built for tattoo and piercing studios add three things a generic waitlist lacks: consent forms that must be signed before the chair, a cap for flash days, and waits that know a lobe piercing from a medium flash piece.

## Flash days and ordinary walk-in days

A flash day is a different line from a Tuesday walk-in. The table sets the two side by side.

**On a flash day, share the link before you open.** People join from wherever they are, see how many are ahead, and come back when their turn is close. When the line reaches your cap, the join page says it is full, so nobody queues for hours for a slot that will not come. Our [guide to running a flash day](https://nextupwalkin.com/blog/how-to-run-a-tattoo-flash-day) covers the rest of the plan.

A general guide; your shop’s own rules come first.

Estimate the wait for the next person who walks in

Slide the numbers to match a busy hour. The estimate is the same arithmetic a line uses to quote a wait.

Example arithmetic: the wait for place N is the full rounds of service ahead of you. Real services vary, which is why a live line re-quotes.

Assumes every service takes the same time. A live line quotes from the real services booked, so it moves as the day does.

## Consent before the chair

**Make the form a step in the line, not a clipboard at the counter.** When the consent form is required to join, it is signed on the client’s phone while they wait, and the artist does not start a session without it.

Check how the signed copy is stored, who can see it, and how long photo ID or reference images are kept. A good app deletes what it no longer needs. For the wider paperwork picture, see [digital waivers](https://nextupwalkin.com/blog/digital-waivers-vaccination-records) and our [tattoo shop walk-in policy](https://nextupwalkin.com/blog/tattoo-shop-walk-in-policy) template.

## Artist choice, deposits and booked sessions

**Walk-ins should be able to wait for one artist** and see that artist’s own wait, or take the first artist free. Artists should be able to post a delay message to the people waiting for them.

**Large pieces are booked, not walked in.** If your shop takes deposits for sessions, check that booking and the walk-in line share one list of artists, so a booked session keeps its chair.

- Can a client join without downloading an app?
- Is the consent form required before joining, and where is the signed copy kept?
- Can you cap the line on a flash day?
- Does each service or size count for its own time?
- Can clients wait for one artist?
- Do bookings and walk-ins share the same artists?

## Try it on a real day

Set up your services and your consent form, share the link on a normal walk-in day first, and save the flash day for once the team is used to it. Keep the free [tattoo shop sign-in sheet](https://nextupwalkin.com/tools/sign-in-sheet/tattoo-studio) by the door as a backup for the first week.

Get the forms signed before the chair.

The line, the TV and the door tablet are on every plan, Free included.

## Questions

### What is a tattoo shop waitlist app?

An app that runs your walk-in line from clients’ phones: they join from a link or code, pick an artist or anyone, sign the consent form while they wait and come back when their turn is close.

### Can I stop taking names on a flash day?

Yes. In the NextUp app you set a cap, and when the line reaches it the join page and the door tablet say the line is full.

### Can clients sign the consent form before they arrive?

Yes. A required form is signed on the client’s phone as part of joining, and the signed copy is filed on their profile.

### How much does a tattoo shop waitlist app cost?

The NextUp app has a Free plan for 1 location, 1 team member and 50 check-ins a month. The Walk-in plan is $29 a month for the first location, and Pro is $59. Other apps list their own prices on their pricing pages, so compare them on the same day and for the same number of team members.
